c1825-1965 Albert Cutler Gates and Sheffield were the manufacturers of pen and pocket knives from Sheffield, Yorkshire. The Hawley Collection is a collection of international importance of advanced tools and cutlery, especially from Sheffield, but with additional materials in Britain and elsewhere.
The collection will be heard by a charitable foundation, is at the University of Sheffield, in a building that was built specifically for this purpose. The photo shows a group of buildings in the 1910s, which developed the factory of S & C Wardlow, steel producers. Almost everything the site has been rebuilt, but the building survived the right-wing camp for steel, now houses the collection of Hawley.
The collection has been rewarded by the level of the museum, and was supported by the HeritageLottery Fund.
